How Watson learns a new subject

IBM's Watson Computing System

Have you ever wondered how IBM Watson works?  How does it learn new subjects so that it can answer questions on related topics?

There isn’t just one instance of Watson.  There are many instances dedicated to specific subject matter areas.  Each instance learns in the following way:

  • Questions and answers pairs are added to train Watson on the subject
  • Watson is automatically updated as new information is published
